WORKS OF MERCY - OPENING FOR MINISTERS

Parishes and young adult ministries can often be the bridge between people in need and young adults who are energized and eager to serve them. But parishes and ministries also bear the gift and responsibility of first helping young adults to encounter God’s mercy personally. Sometimes this encounter happens in the process of practicing the works of mercy, but it can also require slowing down to spend time with God and be ministered to. It is in meeting God’s mercy that young adults can then find the motivation and strength to truly share this mercy with others. Their service then becomes less of a social project, and more of a living witness.

There are also many young adults who hold back in sharing their gifts and service to others because they struggle with feelings of unworthiness. Parishes and other Christ-centered communities can help to welcome these young hearts and introduce them to the grace and healing that God is so ready to give them. We all must remember that in practicing the works of mercy, “we love because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19).

As we reflect on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy this summer, we not only want to speak directly to young adults but also to those who serve them. We hope that you will follow along on our website and social media pages. Please also consider contacting us to learn more about our mission and how you can help partner with us in accompanying young adults, to Christ, through the heart of the Church.
